Geospatial
The DiCRA Geospatial Portal is an interactive, map-based interface that allows users to visualize, explore, analyze, and download climate and related geospatial data. Users can visualise data across 35+ layers from 10 different categories at a sub-district level, select from raster or vector data types, analyse historical data trends, and compare data layers across two different times.
Dashboard
Navigate to the DiCRA Geospatial Portal. Upon loading, you will see the main dashboard interface, which typically consists of:
- a map visualiser showing the spatial data layers
- a navigation panel for selecting locations
- layer cards that let you select category, type, and boundary, and toggle layers and filters
The interface is responsive and interactive, enabling you to zoom, pan, select different map types, and explore spatial data visually.
Map Interaction
Zoom and pan:
- Use the scroll wheel or
+ / –controls to zoom in and out. - Click and drag to move the map horizontally or vertically.
Geographic search:
- Use the search bar (if present) to locate specific regions, districts, or coordinates and quickly focus the map on your area of interest.
- Click the info icon at the top right of the header to select another state.
Map Layers and Legends
- The portal provides multiple data layers across 10 categories.
- Legend colour gradients explain the intensity of the layer in each location, making interpretation easier.
Exploring Geospatial Data Layers
- Use the layer panel to turn layers on or off according to what you want to view.
- Toggle the layer type between raster and vector. Certain layers may only have one type, in which case the toggle is disabled.
- Within the layer control panel, click a specific data layer to display it on the map.
- Click the info button next to each layer for a description of that layer; the download button provides access to the STAC catalogue for that specific layer.
- Layers include climate variables, agricultural indicators, trends, and others relevant to climate resilience.
Boundary Selection
The boundary toggles let you select a district or sub-district boundary, after which you can search for the respective district or sub-district to view data at that level.
Custom boundary:
- Click the custom boundary toggle, then select the pen tool on the right-hand side to create a boundary.
- Draw the shape and double-click the last point to close the boundary.
- The selected layer will now show data for this area alone.
Layer Info Panel
Click on the map area within the selected state to view detailed attribute data. The layer info panel reveals:
- location and latitude/longitude
- value along with the latest updated date
- trend charts with 1-year, 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year views
- source, citation, and standards
Comparative Analysis
The Geospatial portal lets you compare any two layers across two dates and visualise the changes within the selected area using a slider.
- Select the layers to be compared from the left and right panels. You can select the same layer or two separate ones.
- Select the dates on which the parameters are to be compared. The available dates are those for which data was updated on the Geospatial portal.
- Use visual cues (colour gradients, spatial overlays) to identify regions of high or low values.
For example, areas with significant change in soil moisture over time or high climate vulnerability can be visually identified and analysed.
